Neff Microwaves
Neff was established over 125 years ago in Germany and are renowned for very high build quality household appliances these days. There are eighteen models in their range of microwaves, some in combination ovens, and the prices vary between £253 and almost £1200. In common with other manufacturers who make integrated appliances, Neff microwaves can be built in and blend with all the other electricals in the kitchen.
Microwaves have been a staple in kitchen technology for many years and have not changed as much as some other appliances. For example, dishwashers used to be very noisy and the wash was so fierce that they quite literally wore dishes out. Tumble driers would dry at a heat similar to ironing and the clothes would come out in tight wrinkles. But now dishwashers are quiet and tumble driers are almost an alternative to the iron, things come out so smooth. But a microwave used to cook food quickly, and it still does. So there is not much to choose between a cheap microwave and one costing a thousand pounds except build quality and with a Neff microwave you can be sure that you are buying some of the best design and engineering around.
Innowave Technology
InnoWave technology is used by various manufacturers and is designed to make the dreaded 'cold spot' in microwave cooking rather less of a problem. Because microwaves work by making the electrons of the food vibrate, causing them to get hot, if there is a patch which does not receive any microwaves it will stay cold. The heat generated by the microwave energy does not tend to move through the food much, partly because the food is not bubbling or moving and also because the container by definition should not be made of anything that conducts heat. So anything that makes the microwaves more 'organised' will avoid the unpleasant shock that a sudden piece of frozen chicken curry ready meal will give the unwary diner. Look out for InnoWave as it will mean that your food whether cooked from frozen or made from scratch will be much nicer to eat. Fish in particular really benefits from this technology, as its cooking time is so short and it can be quite solid in the middle, making it more difficult for the microwaves to penetrate.
Three Stage Programming
We've all done it. We have bought a ready meal to save time and then wasted time standing at the microwave to be ready to reduce power after one minute, allow to stand for one and a half minutes and then increase power for exactly thirty two seconds to get it perfect. With three stage programming, this is not necessary as it can all be programmed in in one go so that you don't have to keep opening the door to check or stand by while the timer ticks round. These minutes are not many, it is true, but for an appliance to be truly time saving it needs to free up the user and this is what you get with three stage programming.
Stirrer Accessory
Neff microwaves are very unusual in that they come with an integral stirrer option, which can be very useful if you like to make delicate mixes like scrambled egg. With something like egg which is liquid in its uncooked state there is a tendency for some of it to cook completely whilst other parts remain raw. It is then quite difficult to get the consistency right and although many people swear by scrambled egg done in the microwave that is probably because they like their scrambled egg to be like a lump of yellow and white rubber. For proper creamy scrambled egg, the stirrer is essential and you will never go back to egg made without one once you have experienced it. It is also useful when doing things like melting chocolate, especially if it is mixed with other things like golden syrup or something which might catch even in a microwave.
